Posting

Posted on Thu Jan 21st, 2010 @ 6:41pm by Captain Benjamin Byrne

OK all, I've been holding back on posting this news item, since I knew that we would be having our two latest crewmembers join us, and I wanted them to get this too.

We finally have enough crew to be counted as officially active - even with the unfortunate resignation of Ensign Sinclair today, who had to make the decision to leave due to personal time restraints.

However, with 6 crew, this means we have no excuse to let posting sag as it has done since the Christmas break! As you should all know, we are currently en-route to the Metron Consortium, a trip which would take 3 weeks In Character. Now, I'd rather not just skip straight ahead to that third week and ignore the travel time, because there is plenty of opportunity for general posting and for character building. And so, I want everyone to make sure that they get out at least one mission post between the IC periods of MD04 and MD16 (our first course change) by the end of this month. This is the absolute minimum I'm expecting of you, since we have come out of the holiday season still searching for crew.

I will also take this opportunity to highlight the posting rules, which you should all be aware of, because they are under 'simm rules' on the site. The rules state that, unless arrangements have been made which state otherwise with myself, all crewmembers are required to make at least 3 mission posts and one personal log a month (which counts as one of your mission posts) - currently, all except myself and our new addition have made one mission post, and none of us have submitted a personal log yet this month. We need to make sure we correct this - that means that we all need to get at least one more mission post or JP out and personal log to meet our quotas - as we're still settling into life on a new sim, nobody's going to be booted or anything like that for failing to reach the quota this month, but be prepared; I will be holding people to these quotas pretty tightly as time goes on.

Now that all that stuff is out of the way, allow me to explain to you a few ways in which you can help yourself with posting. First of all, a really easy post for you to do would be a simple one of what your character does when they get back to their quarters or the mess hall after a day's work - it doesn't have to be exciting, but use it to develop your character, and what they're like and what they do when off-duty. Another easy post to do is just to take us through a few of your character's daily routines while they're on-duty. Tweaking power conduits, or reorganising your department's supplies - really simple things can actually work well to give us - and you - an insight into your new character.

Another way that you can help yourself with posting is by looking at our manifest. If you do, you will see that I have created a number of NPCs for the department head positions currently vacant that are essential on a starship - so we have a Bolian head for the Operations Department, and a Bajoran head of Engineering. Both are free for you to interact with, as are my Selkie Operations character and my character's family - all you need to do is start a JP with me and let me know which you'd like to be interacting with. These NPCs are here to make sure that we have the right characters available to interact with until they are filled by a player (in the case of our DH's), so I'd like to see people making use of them.

All right people, that's enough of my prattling. You have 10 days until the month is up - I'd like to be content in knowing that each of your posting quotas are complete within that timeframe. Make your new commander proud!
