Personality Profile

General Overview Proud of the work he does, and ever boasting at how he is the best pilot in Starfleet, Markus is always eager to pilot, whether it be a starship, a runabout, shuttle, or even just a workbee. Off-duty, he can sometimes be described as something of a ladies man, and enjoys socialising with members of the opposite sex - though he doesn't shy away from socialising with other men, and will often enjoy a typical 'lads night out' with more than a few drinks of synthenol.
Strengths & Weaknesses Markus is an excellent pilot, but he is also very headstrong, and will sometimes speak when it is uncalled for, or go beyond the line if he strongly disagrees with a decision his superiors have made.
Ambitions Markus' father has always desired for him to work his way up to a command of his own. Markus himself doesn't really know what he wants for his own future - he prefers to live in the moment.
Hobbies & Interests Markus is a big fan of historical aviation, and has a number of models of old planes decorating his quarters. He also enjoys fantasy holo-novels and visiting some of Earth's more characteristic bars in the holodeck.

Personal History

Personal History Markus was born to fairly normal military family. His father was constantly on the move with his job in Starfleet, and so Markus and his mother were constantly on the move too, either to the Starbase nearest the sector Richard was assigned to, or actually onboard the starships he was serving on, when Starfleet began designing ships with families in mind.

Markus was never brought up in a way that had anything other than Starfleet in mind for his future. His father would tell him stories of the greats like Johnathan Archer and James T Kirk, and nurture any sense he had of a longing for exploration, or for command, or anything that would lead to a career in his beloved Starfleet.

Starfleet Academy Richard was immensley proud when his son was accepted into Starfleet Academy after his 18th birthday. Markus himself wasn't too excited; he knew that he had only joined up because it's what his father had expected of him. His excitement did peak however when he discovered flying.

Piloting became his passion throughout the remainder of the academy, and he took the first deep space assignment he could get upon graduation.
Early Career The first few years of Markus' career were spent hoping from one ship to another. The first vessel he served onboard - the USS Harvard - saw the back of him after only a year and a half, after he was offered an assistant chief position aboard the USS Manhattan, where - after only a year - he was promoted to the position of Chief Helmsman.

Boosted by his ego, there was nothing that Markus felt he couldn't do, but after only a year in his new senior staff position, he was reassigned after the Manhattan was mothballed, this time to a more stationary location; Starbase 591.

Though he was in charge of the station's enormous compliment of shuttlecraft, it put a big dampener on his mood for the 3 years he served there. His work and chance to pilot a proper ship had greatly diminished in load, and as such he spent a lot of his time in the bars, socialising with women both fellow officers and civilians, and gained the reputation of the station's 'ladies man' - ever the charmer.
Later Postings Captain Harvard, commanding officer of the Starbase, had been keeping an eye on the young up-and-coming officer during his time onboard, and knew that Rubens needed to be actually piloting a starship to be really happy, and to progress his career. So after a quick talk with Vice Admiral Rubens back at Starfleet Command, Markus found himself the new Chief Helmsman of the newly-commissioned Nova-class ship, the USS York.

Markus loved piloting the York. As a Nova class, she was unbeatable when it came to speed and manoeuvrability, being able to match and even out-manoeuvre ships such as the Defiant class. It was thanks to Markus' piloting skills and the way he made the nimble Nova class dance in a battle that saved the ship and her crew on a number of occasions.

Unfortunately, good pilots can't always save the ship, and after being aboard her for 3 and a half years, Markus was forced to abandon her with the rest of the crew, and watch from afar as her warp core overloaded after an encounter with a group of pirates, who had managed to board and severely damage the little ship.

Captain Arching was a good man though, and looked out for his crew, making sure that they got new assignments quickly, rather than having to sit around. And so Markus headed off for his latest assignment, the USS Fate, where he served for a number of years before been reassigned to the USS Endeavour as a relief helmsman, whilst the commander searched for a replacement.
