Is the Doctor In?

Mission: They Arrive on Tuesday...
Location: Main Sickbay, USS Endeavour
Timeline: MD06, 1045

The doors to sickbay hissed open and James (NPC) stuck his head into the room. Nurses and technicians were buzzing about, prepping and installing equipment. Some were running diagnostics while others were performing routine physicals on new arrivals. Nervously, the young man crossed the threshold and allowed the doors to hiss closed behind him. He'd never enjoyed coming to sickbay, not that the doctors and nurses weren't nice. In fact, he had enjoyed his biology lessons with Doctor Leverenz and the EMH on the Houston. It was just that James didn't like the whole routine physical part, all the poking and prodding. Couldn't they just run a medical tricorder over him and get it over with?

Chihiro was over in the far corner with Hikari who was sat on one of the biobeds.
"Ok then, well you be a good girl and sit still" she told her nicely before turning to notice James.
"Excuse me, anything I can help you with?" she asked.

James looked over in the direction the voice had come from and noticed the doctor standing next to a young girl who was sitting on a biobed. He thought about coming back when it wasn't quite so busy, but he knew that that was just his mind making excuses not to get this over with. Clearing his throat, he said, "Sorry...I, uh...I'm here for my physical."

"Ok then, well if you'll just jump onto the biobed and we can get started" Chihiro said. She picked up a PADD on the side and started to look for files on the teenager "Whats your name please?" She asked tapping away to bring up some medical records.

"James Anderson," James replied taking a seat on the biobed and watching the doctor somewhat nervously as she worked.

"Cool, I'll just look up your details" she said as she tapped away at the PADD. "Here we go, James Anderson" She glanced over them quickly before looking at his face then at the PADD again. "Well you look younger in the picture, this might need updating. You look somewhat cute in this pic" She said handing him the PADD.

"Ok then we'll get started!" Chihiro told him as she pulled out a medical tricorder and began scanning. "Oh, and since your in my neck of the woods now, I'm Dr Chihiro Ogino; the ships doctor. Feel free to come by anytime. I don't bite... much" she told him with a smile.

Smiling back, but not really assured, James followed the detachable sensor as the doctor ran it along the length of his arm, then across his chest. Taking a few deep breaths, he tried to stay calm as she continued with the physical. He wasn't exactly sure how much he'd be dropping by outside of his studies. Sickbay wasn't on his list of favorite free-time hangouts.

As Chihiro scanned Hikari sat and stared at James. She was thinking about talking to him or at least saying hello, but she was too shy to attempt communication.

James could feel the young girl watching him, but he was too focused on the physical to pay much attention to it. He couldn't tell which bothered him more, the physical or being watched in silence by a ten year-old girl. It wasn't her fault, just his nerves, but her staring wasn't helping him at all. "How much longer do you think this is going to take, doctor," James asked nervously.

"Not long, I just need to go and update your medical records on the medical database, wait here a minute or two" She told him as she tapped a few buttons on her tricorder and made her way to a nearby medical console. She brought up the database and started to transfer the information onto it.

Meanwhile Hikari still stared, she had now decided to build up the courage to speak.
"Hi..." she said quietly, wondering if the boy had heard her.

"Hello," James said with as even a tone as he could muster. He had a feeling he wasn't doing as good a job hiding his nervousness as he thought.

"Whats your name?" Hikari asked, she started to wonder if there was many children aboard.

"James," the young man replied, looking down from his place on the biobed, "What's yours?"

"Hikari" she replied nicely. "My mums the doctor" she added with a smile.

"I see that," James said, looking over at the doctor where she stood at the console. From the look of it, she was still entering information, but James hoped that she would be done soon. He still wanted to make it down the the holodeck that morning before his father got off duty.

Chihiro wandered over with a smile on her face "Right then James, all updated and done. Please tell your father to drop by soon. You can go now" Chihiro told him as she put the PADD down on the end of the biobed.

"Thanks," James said, jumping off the biobed and starting for the door, "I'll let him know to come down as soon as he's free." At last, he was free and able to get out of there. Passing through the doors and out into the corridor, he turned and started toward one of the holodecks. Hopefully he still had enough time before his father got off duty to try out a few new programs.
