Is there a doctor in the house?

Mission: They Arrive on Tuesday...
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: MD02 1327

"Yes, I know she's currently assigned to the Epson, but I have Captain Higgens' personal recommendation for her transfer."

Ben sighed to himself as he spoke to the screen on his desk. On it was the head and shoulders of a Lieutenant at Starfleet Medical. It was the second time he'd been transferred to someone else on the comm. lines, and each one were stating that he had to go higher up to get his desired Chief Medical Officer transferred from another ship so soon.

"I'm afraid to confirm that, we'll have to wait for the next update from the Epson's Chief Medical Officer, sir," the woman replied. Clearly a bureaucratic desk clerk.

"To hell with waiting!" After an hour on the comm. lines, he was starting to lose his patience. "I need to have my Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant, and I'll go way over your head to Admiral Summers to get her if I need to, do you understand me?"

His outburst clearly caught the young woman off-guard, and she floundered a bit, searching for the right words, but he interrupted her before she could protest. "Just, get it done. And notify her of her promotion to Lieutenant. Endeavour out." He cut the channel, knowing that if the woman had any desire to continue her career, she'd get him his CMO. There was a well-known process among desk clerks; if you happened to be the one that made a commander angry enough to go straight to an Admiral, you won't be sticking around long enough to be able to do it again.

He ran his hands through his hair as he sighed, trying to release the tension he'd built up for himself as Sarah (NPC) walked into the ready room, the doors swishing shut behind her. "Stessed?" she asked, as she moved over to her husband, seeing his posture.

He smiled apologetically at her. "Just the desk clerks at Medical giving me a hard time. Nothing to worry about."

She moved around behind his chair and started to massage the tension out of the muscles in the back of his neck, her touch soft but firm. "I take it you got your doctor, then? You always seem to find a way to get people to give you what you want," he said, smiling at the back of his head.

Ben chuckled. "Yea. Either that, or tomorrow I'll be getting someone fired by Admiral Summers," he replied, closing his eyes as Sarah's thumbs pressed into the back of his neck.

"Now that's not very nice, using the Admiral card on them," his wife replied, jokingly. "I'd have thought you would have taken the more diplomatic approach."

"I did. For the first hour at least," Ben replied, as he sat up straighter and swivelled his chair around to face her, putting his hands on either side of her hips. "But when it takes that long, you get to know whether it's going to require the direct approach."

"The direct approach, eh?" Sarah said, as she leant down and kissed him lightly on the lips. "Well I hope you're not that direct with Jacob. He still wants you to take him down to Earth you know."

Ben sighed. He had promised his son he'd take him, but so far there'd been too much work to do. "I know, I know. I'll take him, don't worry. I just have to get a few more things squared away here first."

"I'll tell him you'll definitely take him down before we leave then?"

"Yes, definitely."

"Promise?"

"I promise!" Ben laughed, pushing her playfully towards the door. "Now go on! If I'm going to manage that, I'll have to get this work done first."

"Really promise?" Sarah replied, throwing a smile over her shoulder as he strolled through the ready room doors, arms swinging.
