Night Doctor

Posted on Mon Sep 3rd, 2012 @ 11:15pm by Lieutenant JG Talm Aleint-Um MD [Byrne]

Mission: Klingons on the Starboard Bow
Location: USS Endeavour - Main Sickbay
Timeline: MD04 1750hrs

Aleint-Um had to pull his wings in tight to his body and duck his head down to fit through the steel-grey door, as he did with almost all of the standard doors on this - and most other Starfleet - ship. It was an action he had become used to since he had started serving, and something that his tribe-mates who had left their home planet had warned him about.

The doctor looked around at the sickbay as he entered, and was suitably impressed. The Sovereign's medical facilities were state-of-the-art, and even after ten years had an impressive and respectable facility, and it had many specialised facilities on the deck surrounding it. Craning his neck to search around the bay, and through the glass partition that looked through the CMO's office, he began looking for one of his new colleagues.

Nurse Oshinu had been double checking the surgical suites when the new doctor came in, and almost ran into Talm when she rounded the corner into the main surgical area. "Lieutenant, how can I help you?" she asked.

"Just looking to report for duty," Aleint-Um responded, inclining his head in respect to his fellow physician. "I am Lieutenant Talm, of the family-clan Aleint-Um. I was instructed to report aboard as this ship's night watch doctor, if I am not mistaken?" The Universal Translator turned his Aurelian speech into Federation Standard with a distinctive upper class inflection to it.

"Nurse Oshinu," the enlisted officer replied. "Doctor Jerome's not on duty at the moment, but I assume you're familiar with the set-up of the ship's medical bays?" As she concluded, she seemed to stifle a yawn behind her hand.

"Not directly, but I have studied the standard specifications," the Aurelian responded as he glanced around the medical bay for a moment before returning his attention back to her. "Are you alright, Nurse? It is only seventeen-fifty hours... if my medical experience thus far has not been mistaken, humans have an eight-hour sleeping pattern, and it is considered healthy when on the day shift to sleep during the night rather than the early evening?"

"I'm fine, it has been a long day, a little coffee and I'll be wide awake." Oshinu replied with a sheepish smile.

"Of course, Nurse," Talm responded. "If you wish, I can assume the rest of this shift, plus my own after it. My species requires only short bursts of sleep, and my sleeping cycle is already adjusted to resting earlier in the day, rather than at night."

"I think I might take you up on that," Oshinu said, her smile now a thankful one. "Thanks."

"Enjoy your rest." Talm instructed, with a bow of his head.
