Illness Abound

Metronian Diplomacy

Entering sickbay, Byrne noted that it wasn't quite as empty as the last time he had been in there - there were a few officers and crewmen standing with scanners being passed over them and hyposprays being administered, with a small number of biobeds being filled. It was organised still, but Byrne wondered if his illness was indeed confined to himself.
Chihiro, seeing the commander wander into her sickbay came out of her office and up to him. "Commander are you alright?" she asked in her Japanese-English accent.
"Just some stomach pains and a headache, Doctor," Benjamin replied, coming to a stop as the doctor came over to see him. "And I'm guessing from the look of it in here, I'm not the only one feeling ill."
"No everyone is feeling queasy" Chihiro told him. "Including myself, but I'm ignoring it" She explained. She ran the tricorder over him and nodded. "Yep, exactly same symptoms as everyone else. But surprisingly some of the crew seem unaffected" She explained nicely.
"Just gimme something to calm my stomach down," Byrne responded, placing his hand on a console to steady himself as it spasmed again. "I can't go on working if I'm having to grab my damn stomach all the time."
"Ok commander" Chihiro said injecting him with a hypospray. "This should help a little" she explained.
Breathing a deep sigh of relief as the medication took effect, Benjamin straightened back up and looked around sickbay properly. On the far side of the expansive room, he noticed the Lieutenant they had brought aboard earlier. Clearly with the rest of the crew becoming ill, the medical staff hadn't had time yet to finish repairing all of the damage the Obrinkahns had done, and she was still in the primary sickbay facility. "How's our new arrival doing?" he asked, nodding his head in her direction
"She's doing ok, getting closer to one hundred per cent, and the baby is doing ok too. No damage there" Chihiro reported.
Hannah was across the room. It was true not all of her injuries had been repaired but at least she wasn't in a lot of pain. She was stabilized which had probably been enough for the medical staff.
Walking up to Hannah Chihiro lent on the side of the surgical bed. "How are you feeling?" she asked the woman.
"Tired, still in a little pain, but I think it would have been more if I hadn't accepted the hypospray." She managed a smile. "The baby?" She whispers.
"Do you feel up to answering a few questions?" Benjamin asked, stepping up to join the doctor at the side of the woman's biobed.
"I can try."She said simply and shivered a bit. She waited to hear the doctor.
Benjamin too looked to the Doctor for her word on the baby before asking his questions. He understood from when his own wife was pregnant just how important the baby becomes to the parents, and at that time wondered briefly about the baby's father.
Chihiro ran her tricorder over Hannah's stomach. "Its fine, no injuries to him or her" she said not wanting to give away the gender.
As the doctor gave her assurances, Byrne turned his attention back to Edroski. "Lieutenant, can you tell me how you managed to end up in this region of space?"
"I was on my way back to the USS Runabout after a conference when I saw a light and then I was in this region of space." She answered with cold precision. Apparently she didn't really like being interrogated after what happened to her.
Glancing quickly at the doctor, Benjamin felt his suspicions become closer to fact. The brief description the Lieutenant had given was consistent with his own experiences at being translocated by the Metrons. "Yes, that certainly sounds familiar," he told the woman. "What region of space were you in before this happened?"
"I was heading back towards Risa...so the Alpha quadrant" She answered again with cold precision, her uninjured hand going to her stomach.
Benjamin's eyes went distant as he glanced up to the ceiling, and his pupils darted from side to side as if tracing a dot-to-dot on the bulkheads above him as he consulted his memory of the Federation's major planets and their approximate locations. "Risa's almost two hundred and fifty lightyears away from the Consortium," he murmured almost to himself as he paced alongside the bed, thinking. "There's no connection!" he was speaking quietly and calmly, though his mind was clearly hard at work as he lifted his hand to grasp his chin, the end of his thumb near the top of his throat. Seeming to snap back to the here and now, he looked from the Lieutenant to the Doctor and back again. "Thank you, Lieutenant," he said, nodding to her. "You'll be well looked after. If there's anything else that may come to mind that could help up, please let me know."
"Th...There is one more thing. I didnt know at the time about your mission with these people. I had to disclose a bit of our mission, just to try to prove i wasnt a spy. But they did notbe....believe me" She started to cry softly.
"Mission?" Ben asked, softly upon seeing her begin to cry. The tears of women always made him feel helpless and at a loss as to what to do. "You mean the Runabout's last mission?"
"The prime Directive, Sir." There again was the cold, even in her tears.
"Yes, of course," Benjamin responded, his tone still soft. "Thank you."
As he turned to let the Lieutenant rest, Byrne beckoned the doctor to follow him. "I want you to keep me updated on the crew's health situation. I don't like how everyone is suddenly becoming so ill. Your top priority now is to find the cause, and find a permanent treatment."
