Discretion Is Key

Location: USS Endeavour - Sickbay
Timeline: MD02 0810 hours

Benjamin walked into the sickbay, and quietly noted the low activity within the room, considering how early in the morning his visit was. Lieutenant Jenarian was peacefully sleeping on her biobed, and Benjamin made to move quietly, so as not to wake her. With the medical staff back to their duties, the EMH had been deactivated, to await the next time her use would be required, and a nurse was the only person other than Byrne moving around the sickbay, ensuring that all the equipment was in its proper place and functioning correctly. Stepping lightly, Byrne moved towards the Chief Medical Officer's office, and stepped inside through the open door.

"Doctor," he said, quietly so as not to allow his voice to travel into sickbay proper. "Do you have a minute?"

Chihiro looked up and placed the PADD she had been reading down on her desk. "Yes Captain, something I can help you with?" she asked nicely with a slight smile wondering what the Captain may need.

Benjamin tapped the control next to the doorway to close the portal behind him, preventing any noise from floating through into the main room. "It's a classified matter," he said by way of explanation, moving to pass the PADD he had brought in with him to the doctor. "It seems that Nessa isn't your standard human. Have you done any blood tests on her since she came aboard?" He knew that Nessa might have been overlooked, considering that she came aboard at about the same time they were flung by the Metrons into another galaxy; the staff had more important things on their mind at that time to think about.

"Not that I recall Captain" Chihiro said. "I can do so if you wish, is there a reason why you think she's not a standard Human being?"

"I received that message in the early hours of this morning," Ben explained, pointing to the PADD. He moved to prop himself up on the edge of the desk. "She was apparently the result of genetic experiments - god knows how that managed to pass by Starfleet screening, and if it was known, why she was permitted to enlist. I'm concerned about some of the things that letter says, specifically some of the risks it points out for her."

"I see" Chihiro said. "Would you like me to verify this letter and find out her strengths and weaknesses? Although I'd have to do it while 'pretending' to do a physical, I don't think she'd like us testing her for something that isn't really her fault" Chihiro asked simply as she pulled up her previous medical records on the desktop computer console.

Benjamin nodded. "If you could. Really, since she's not had one yet, there shouldn't be any suspicion if you do order a physical, so long as you perform them on other crew members who have been missed out as well," he said, thinking as he talked. "You could also use the fact of her injuries from the bug encounter to do any more thorough tests you need to. More-so, I'm concerned with whether her... origins are of any threat to her health, or of any threat to the rest of the crew."

Chihiro nodded in response "I'll book her in tomorrow morning, and the results should come back around noon. I'll pass them to you in person to make sure confidentiality is maintained. After all doctor patient confidentiality is a big part of my job" Chihiro explained nicely.

"Thank you Doctor," Benjamin responded, standing and moving towards the door again. "I appreciate it."
