New Introductions
Posted on Sat Dec 31st, 2011 @ 7:27pm by Lieutenant JG Ethan Kessel & Lieutenant Commander Aeitos th'Ralik [PNPC]
Mission:
Old Relics
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: MD01 1850hrs
Kessel walked swiftly down the corridor towards the central engineering. His brief period of relaxing had ended, once his "Chilling" declined into idleness.
After checking the wardrobe in his quarters, he found three Duty Uniforms hanging up, and one Dress Uniform next to them, as well as a couple of pieces of Casual Wear for when he was off duty.
He had changed into his Starfleet Uniform, and decided to meet his Superior Officer before his Shift actually Started. At least that way there would be no chance of accidentally arriving late.
He turned the corridor and entered Main Engineering. The sight was magnificent. The central Pillar stood in the Middle of the room, while an Andorian stood hunched over a desk to one side. Ethan Recognised him as his new Commanding Officer from the photo in his PADD. Putting on a air of Confidence he did not really feel, he strode towards him.
"Good Afternoon Sir. My Name Is Ethan Kessel, Ensign and Energy/Matter Specialist onboard this Ship."
Aeitos glanced up at the new arrival and grunted a simple acknowledgement of his presence. "Welcome aboard, Ensign," he said, turning back to his work. "Perhaps if you are our new specialist you can get to work and look at these schematics with us." His manner was short and very business-like; something that would not have gone amiss in the old Andorian Imperial Guard before the time of the Federation.
Ethan walked over to the Andorian and stood opposite him. He looked down at the schematics before him. There were detailed blueprints of the ship, the various armaments, and the computer systems on board.
One in particular drew his gaze.
"Certainly Sir. What can I do for you?"
"The power distribution systems were completely haywired during the ship's hurried in-field repairs prior to and en-route to her previous mission," the engineer explained, referring to a time before either of them came aboard. "This system, whilst functional for purpose, is terribly inefficient, and potentially dangerous if we were to enter a situation which might cause a surge to build in the EPS conduits. The distribution net needs to be redesigned and reconfigured, without us having to spend months in dry dock."
Ethan looked at the Plans. He followed the designs. The Cheif Engineer was Right, system looked as though it worked, but so Much Energy was wasted throughout the grid.
"Its looks as though that is your main Sourse of Power loss."
He pointed to the Drives linked to the Primary Engines.
"There is Too much power going through those resistors. If we ever Go above Warp Seven - No Warp 8, the resulting surge could Blow the Warp Drives. The Surge would be contained, by the Power systems, but would nock us back down to Warp Five. Any attempt after that would be disastorous.
I agree with you. The system is inadequent for our needs.
He borrowed a Pencil of a Passing engineer, and drew some notes in an Untidy scrawl. It was leggible however. If we had a step down Transforer, of sufficient stregnth, we could lower the ampage to a safer level, at this point." he drew a circle with an 'X' in it. "and reboost the Power at this point." he drew a second circle.
"That should make it safe for a while, and prevent any surges - at least until we can get some more specialised parts at the next base we come to. One of the Transformers from the Transporters should do, if you have a spare."
He stood back, pleased with himself.
"Get your tool kit," the chief engineer said, very simply and finally, as he moved around the table and on to his next task.
