Houseguests Part 2

Benjamin looked up from the console he was tapping away at - his tricorder interfaced to try and assist in translating its output, as the alien language was still giving the Universal Translator hard time - as the other members of the away team began returning to the main room that the captain had remained in.

Doctor Rackham had gone to look inside their infirmary, Ensign Lynch had gone to look around the rest of the facility, and Lieutenant Madrat had gone to see if there was an alternate way out, whilst Keldan had stayed with Byrne to work on the computers in the main chamber and try to figure out what the outpost's function was - or any other information stored in the facility's computers.

"Find anything interesting?" Byrne asked of the others.

"Most of the consoles and equipment aren't functional, but then again they aren't even remotely to what I've seen before," Jack responded, "I suggest we keep open comm channels, since this place has a maze like interior. I almost got lost on my way back."

"The door we came in through seems to be the only way in or out," the security officer reported. "The facility obviously isn't a military installation, but the containment protocols are very good. Not even a microbe could get out of here when the place is on lock-down."

"And I've looked through the medical supplies: nothing. This is like no medical bay I've seen. There are no regenerators for a start. It looks not so much like a med bay, but more like...a bio lab. They must have had a really strange anatomy for this to be a useful infirmary." Rackham said, turning his head back to the room he had just come from.

"I think that matches up with what we've found here," Byrne said, moving around slightly to get better reach on another part of his console. "From the datalogs kept in this place that we've been able to access, it was some sort of medical research facility. It was kept secluded from the rest of their facilities in order to prevent any potential contagion, but also because their research seemed to include something in this planet's environment or plant life." His face produced a momentary grimace as the commands he was typing produced no discernible result again. "The only problem is I haven't been able to find any records of what they were researching, exactly."

"I'm guessing based on Lieutenant Madrat's report, this place could be some sort of a biological research center. He did say that not even a microbe could get out of here if need be. So I suggest some caution with whatever we find, since it could be dangerous," Jack responded.

"Well whatever they were using this place for, we might end up being here a little while. Keldan, Madrat; you stay here and continue working on the databases. Lynch, Rackham; you're with me. Let's go find somewhere to set ourselves up for a while." Byrne grabbed his survival sack from its place resting against the console and moved to lead the two other officers down into the levels of the facility beyond the main chamber.
