Mission: Metronian Diplomacy
Location: USS Endeavour - Sickbay
Timeline: MD27 1013hrs
Tags: breakthrough, metron, translocation, countermeasure

Lhamepha (NPC) darted into Sickbay, looking around frantically for the newly-returned away team, the water around the neck of her hydration suit sloshing with the movement. In her hand were a collection of three large PADDs, filled with data she had crammed their memory cores with from the main computer. Since they had arrived in this region of space, she had been analysing every bit of sensor data available during the very brief moment it had taken for the Metrons to send them to this galaxy. Spotting the Ensign, Lieutenant and Chief sitting on the edge of a grouping of biobeds as Doctor Ogino moved away, she darted towards them. "Sirs!" she cried out.

Ballard knew fine well that he was in no way this Ensign's superior officer but the opportunity to respond entertained him. "What's wrong, Ensign?"

Lhamepha paused to catch her breath, gulping salty Pacifican sea water in through her gills. "I've been going over the sensor logs from when the Metrons sent us here," she told the trio, handing them the small stack of PADDs, each showing a different set of the data she had gathered. "I think that they used some kind of concentrated subspace pulse wave."

Nessa took one of the PADDs from Lhamepha and gave it a more careful look over. "Hmmm, it seems you are right. I'm a bit surprised I actually didn't think of that one myself. I'm pretty sure I can manage to get the specific wavelength they used from this data though. If we can reproduce it, we might be able to go back to our own galaxy without the need to wait for the Metron." She turned her attention to Lieutenant Kinu with a slight grin on her features, "I'll send the data over to Engineering as soon as I have something solid and we can work out the details on reproducing it. The only question is being able to actually control it rather than ending up in the middle of some star, but I'm sure that we might be able to come up with something, provided we have enough time to examine the data." She took another of the PADDs and quickly glanced over the data before creasing her brows in a frown, remembering her manners and quickly adding, "Excellent work, Lhamepha."

"Maybe," Lhamepha said, nodding at the praise. "But from the readings I've been going over," she pointed to the PADD Kinu held in her hand. "The power requirements to successfully move us anywhere would be enormous... I don't even want to think about the power requirements for sending us across the galactic void. But..." she paused as she placed emphasis on the word, as though considering whether or not to go ahead and explain her idea. "I've been thinking... when the Metrons eventually bring us back... could we somehow use this data to work on a countermeasure, to stop them sending us off somewhere else again?"

Nessa furrowed her brows momentarily, seemingly considering that idea for a moment, while at the same time her mind ticked away and she gave a quick nod. "Sounds feasible. Of course, I'll need to do a bit of calculating to see if we'd be able to pull such a thing off, but it definitely sounds like something the ship would be capable of doing." Having said those words, she went quiet, though her lips moved still, a clear indication for anyone who knew her that she was already working on the idea. A moment later, she reached out and grabbed the third PADD, not even bothering to ask for permission as she plucked the object from Kinu's hand. She was lost in a world of her own, probably the one reason for her to join Starfleet - studying new things and trying to figure out the way they worked.

Ballard had grabbed a PADD and was noting down most of the conversation. He wanted to be sure that what the officers were saying could be corroborated but, only having an engineering background, he wasn't in a position to debate their findings. He inhaled sharply with the sudden realisation about the report he'd probably be required to submit to Starfleet about their time aboard the Arktinian vessel. What do I say? He thought. I doubt they'd be interested in all the banquets we had.

"Well, I'll be in Engineering," Kinu said, as she pushed herself off the edge of the biobed, her hand relieved of its PADD. "Try not to mess with my warp core too much while you play around with that." She'd been in a bad mood for most of the mission - she'd been transferred without her request to the Endeavour, then shipped out on a mission where the ship had travelled for almost two months pushing the engines to their maximum without any proper shakedown before being flung to some unknown galaxy by the 'we are better than thou' Metrons. All she wanted to do right now was lose herself in Engineering. The confines of the Delta Flyer had been a strain on her Bajoran temper.

Lhamepha glanced round over her shoulder at the engineer's departure, but caught herself just short of asking what had gotten up her gills - partly because she remembered that Bajorans didn't have gills, but partly because Kinu was a superior, both in rank and position, and it would be disrespectful to do so. Turning her attention back to the two remaining officers, she said; "So, do you think it could work?", her voice carrying as much excitement as the engineer had just displayed disinterest.

Nessa gave a frown as she watched the departure of the engineering officer. Even with her own stand-offish nature, she knew something was wrong, but there really wasn't much of a point to try and discuss it, even less so with others present. She turned her attention back to Lhamepha and gave a quick nod of her head. "I need to look at the data a bit more carefully in the lab, perhaps try and simulate some of the wavelengths to see how to best counteract them, but at a glance I think it's completely possible to do. Now, whether the ship can handle it or not, that's another matter, but if it can't, I'm sure that engineering will be able to figure it out." Her eyes closed for a moment as she thought how the ship definitely needed a morale officer as everyone seemed to be quite tense during this trip.

Lhamepha smiled. "I'll join you in the lab then," she said. "I'll just grab a few extra things from operations." She was already back-pedalling to the door as she finished her statment, when she remembered her manners. Nodding a farewell to the intelligence officer, she said "Chief," and departed.
