This Wasn't How I Left It...

Posted on Sun Nov 7th, 2010 @ 1:25pm by Captain Benjamin Byrne & Lieutenant Commander Hannah Edroski & Lieutenant Chihiro Ogino MD & Lieutenant JG Nessa Jenarian & Provisional Lieutenant Commander Narayn Ballard

Mission: Bug-Eyed Bogies
Location: Shuttlecraft then USS Endeavour
Timeline: MD07 0934hrs

As Benjamin and the others reached the shuttle that the Endeavour had sent for them, the pilot they had sent with it was already onboard, and the rear ramp to the craft slowly began lowering towards the ground. Thankfully, they had come at the end of the monsoon season, and today the rain had stopped - the cavern-like shuttlebay that the craft had been berthed in was lit by the brilliant sunshine coming through the open doors as they looked out from the cliff face the bay was dug out from, and over the calm ocean beyond.

"We hope that you enjoyed your visit, Captain," Cruntae, their guide who had met them on the day they arrived said, offering a slight bow towards the away team.

"We did, thank you," Benjamin replied. "Hopefully we can return the favour one day."

There really wasn't much for Nessa to say. She had definitely enjoyed her stay, what with the planet's climate being what it was. A silent smile could be seen playing on her lips during most of their stay, but beyond that the science officer was her usual distant self.

Hannah moved carefully for the transport with a sigh. It was rather uneventful to her thank goodness. She looked around her as she climbed into the shuttle.

As the away team climbed onboard the shuttle and settled into their seats, Benjamin took the copilot's chair, and began helping their pilot with the preflights. "Let's get this thing back home then, shall we?" he asked, rhetorically. As the shuttle lifted off from it's berth and glided through the open bay doors, the windscreens automatically tinted to accomodate the extra bright light. As the pilot curved the craft up towards the atmosphere, Benjamin sat back to relax, and enjoy the ride back to his ship.

Chihiro held onto her medkit tightly as she sat in one of the other chairs. She was sat in silence wondering to herself about the diplomatic visit they had just finished. Also the Endeavour had gone off for some distress call, could this have anything to do with the negotiations on the planet below.

Narayn was lost inside a small case he was carrying. Inside lay a plethora of substances and potions he had acquired in the subterranean market on the planet. He pulled out two small vials, compared their aesthetics and replaced them in the case. He noted a something in the PADD and then did the same with another. The small console he was working on top of chirruped happily as he began inputting raw data into the Shuttlecraft's computer.

Nessa wasn't doing much beyond updating library information about the planet they had just left. She was literally surrounded by PADDs, her eyes darting between each and the onboard library about once every few seconds, comparing and updating information. She lifted her head for a moment and focused her gaze on the captain, seemingly considering something before biting on her lower lip and getting back to the task she had chosen for herself.

Hannah was actually laid back in her chair a bit, dozing, the pregnancy really taking its toll on her body.

After about an hour or so, the pilot of the small craft began furrowing his brow, and checking multiple systems on the shuttle. "Something wrong?" Benjamin asked him, half-expecting him to begin telling them of system crashes or malfunctions or something of the sort.

"We're approaching the rendezvous coordinates now, Sir," Collins responded. "But I can't find the ship. She's not where they said they'd be."

At this Benjamin - along with pretty much every other officer on the shuttle - became suddenly alert, and each started using the systems nearest them to try and find the Endeavour

"I'm picking her up on long range scanners, Captain. Heading 1, 8, 3, we could probably get there in a few minutes," came Nessa's slightly worried voice. She didn't need to inform anyone of what else the sensors picked up as she knew anyone would be able to tell the rest by directing their own console to the same location.

Benjamin directed his console to show the same sensor data, and took a look at the detailed readings of his ship. "There doesn't seem to be any signs of damage, but the ship's putting out minimal power readings," he said, becoming more concerned and confused. "Looks like the only system running right now is life support. She's pretty much drifting."

"Drifting ship, dead in space." Ballard's voice drifted in. "Sometimes you can see too many horror movies."

Hearing trouble Hannah did wake up and did a doubletake, worried for the crew.

Collins piloted the shuttle towards the underside of her mothership's saucer section, and delicately docked the smaller vessel into the precisely shaped alcove set into the hull - the young Petty Officer's skill was put to use, as the ship's drifting made it all the more complex to dock the yacht to the ship.

"I don't like the feel of this," Benjamin told the others. "Phasers at the ready, just in case."
