Somewhere Safe

Posted on Thu Feb 3rd, 2011 @ 6:11pm by Lieutenant Commander Hannah Edroski & Lieutenant Chihiro Ogino MD & Lieutenant JG Nessa Jenarian & Ensign Lhamepha Kitonuh [Byrne]

Mission: Bug-Eyed Bogies
Location: Decks 7 & 8
Timeline: Concurrent with/Just after "Explanations"

She slowly moved behind the good doctor, her form moving as quietly as she could given her condition, her hair moving alittle behind her.

Chihiro led the way down onto deck eight. The group finally crawled out of a jeffries tube hatch and onto the corridor. "The science labs are just down here" she said pointing to the curved corridor.

Nessa let out a grunt as she regained her breath. Her leg was bleeding, though not at a rate that would be considered alarming so she ignored it for the moment while trying to look in every direction at once in an attempt to spot any more incoming creatures. Spotting none and breathing a sigh of relief, she took a closer look at the creature that she had just shot. While it did seem familiar somehow, she couldn't remember where from. "Doctor," she whispered, glancing toward the lieutenant, "any idea what these things are?"

"No Idea" Chi said. She crouched down to look at Nessa's leg. "Let me do this first" she said pulling out a dermal regenerator from the medkit and healing up her cut. "Go easy on it, what ever things are, they like us" Chi explained.

The Science Officer just stood there with a bit of a frown on her features, though her eyes kept darting this way and that while the doctor tended to the wound. "I can't shake the feeling that I should know the name of this species, but I can't for the life of me figure it out," she murmured, "The cut could have waited, though, it's not a major deal. We need to get to a better position and soon." Her phaser was trained on a shadow in the hallway, though that turned out to be just a piece of web swinging about. It took Nessa just a second to remember that the ship wasn't drafty and as such the only way it could be swinging would be if someone had brushed against it on the way. "We need to go, doctor. Now," she hissed barely audible, but with a rather obvious urgency in her voice.

"Right then" Chihiro whispered back. "I'll lead the way first with the children" she explained taking their hands and slowly walking away not to make herself a target.

"Sounds about right,Lt. nice and steady now, dont want to scare anything into attacking"Edroski finally managed with whisper.

Eventually the group reached the science lab. Chihiro forced the doors open as they were jammed. "Oh good, they haven't got in here yet" she said seeing the room still free from the green stringy webs they spun out. "Lets get in and get that door closed" She said.

Nessa brought the rear up, slowly walking backwards as she entered the medical bay, her phaser trained on the hallway behind the group, aim shifting this way and that as it seemed that they were being followed by at least a couple of the creatures that had attacked them along the way. She paused just enough to push the door closed before breathing a sigh of relief. "Perhaps splitting up wasn't such a great idea. Still, we've managed so far. Hopefully the captain's team has been doing a better job," she whispered as her eyes took in the surroundings of the medical bay just as something large slammed against the doors, making her jump slightly in surprise.

Hannah drew her phaser with the bang, very much alert as she watched what was banged against.

"H-hello?" The small voice came from the corner of the science lab, revealed to be the aquatic Ensign Kitonuh. As she stood up from her place hiding behind one of the tables in the science lab, her face instantly fell into a look of relief. "Thank the makers!" she exclaimed. "I'm so glad to see someone else! I've been alone down here for hours!"

The science officer ignored the selkie at first, one of her hands moving to rip the door's panel out of the wall, deftly and quickly working to short out the circuits, leaving the massive door effectively sealed shut. The adrenaline provided by the scare as the creatures outside continued to bang against the door made the second part of the task a bit more difficult, her fingers trembling with the rush. When the task was done, she breathed a sigh of relief - they were safe for the moment. "Lhamepha," she turned her head toward the operations officer just as another bang came from the door, "good thing you're here. We could certainly use your help. Any idea where the rest of the crew is? Are there any other survivors?"

"I've no idea..." Lhamepha responded, clearly in shock and shaking. "The bugs seemed to come out of nowhere, and they just started feasting. I just ran as soon as they started to overrun this deck, and locked myself in here..." her large eyes caught sight of the patch of skin on Nessa's leg that, to a careful and trained eye, still showed signs of recently having a dermal regenerator applied to it. "Those things didn't do that, did they?"

Nessa gave a slight shrug of her shoulders. Clearly the selkie was in enough of a state of panic for the science officer to add more to it. "It's nothing, just a scrape. Don't worry, we should be safe here," she spoke, another loud bang coming from the sealed door as if to point out that they wouldn't be safe for long. Still, she walked up to the panicked operations officer and offered a hand to help her stand up, doing her best to not show any hint of fear. "We should get to sickbay, I think. We can certainly try and come up with some solution better than phasers to deal with these bugs there," the science officer added.

"Sickbay's no good," the Ops Officer replied. "The bugs seem to like something in there - I'm not sure if it's the medical equipment giving off something, or the sterile environment or what, but they keep on swarming towards it every couple of hours. I came to this science lab to try and see if there was anything I could figure out about them to help, but without anything to study, I'm at a loss."

"Hmmm, that doesn't sound too good. Still, could work to our advantage if they keep swarming there, releasing a toxin could work even better than trying to use the ship's environment systems." Nessa said with a grin forming on her lips. She didn't bother to mention that to release a toxin locally, one of them would have to physically go there to do so, but they could worry about that when they had an actually working solution. "As to having something to study..." she continued, pointing to the bits of alien blood and tissue covering the upper part of her uniform from when she had blasted one of the bug's brains out, "This may not be much, but it can give us some information as to what we're dealing with here."

"Well, you're the scientist," Lhamepha said grinning sheepishly. She'd had the standard science training at Starfleet Academy, but in truth, she wouldn't know where to start on something like this.

"That I am. Still..." Nessa started to say, turning her head to glance at the rest of the crew gathered there before saying, "Doctor, I might need your help on this one. Exobiology is not exactly my forte and we might not get a whole lot of chances to work on this, not to mention that a medical tricorder would probably give us more information than the standard one." Reaching up to one of the nearby shelves, she grabbed a couple containment units, carefully scooping bits of tissue into each before resealing them and heading toward one of the less cluttered tables to start working with basic scans on the samples.
