Mission: Bug-Eyed Bogies

Closing her transmission with the Endeavour, Commodore Varela performed a sensor sweep of the ship. Taking that information and the fact of the 'big ass bugs' comment, she turned her shuttle around and plotted a course to the nearest starbase with the resources available to come to the rescue of the crew. It would be at least an hour or more before she would be within communications range.

Compiling the data she forwarded the encrypted information to the station's commanding officer. "Daniels to Starbase 427," she radioed in.

"Starbase 427 come in..."

"Commodore Varela here. I am sending you information regarding the USS Endeavour. Captain Byrne has an Emergency Code 1 and needs the assistance of an HAZMAT team to deal with, and I quote, big ass bugs," Jovi relayed. "I have an ETA of ... 42 minutes at current warp factor 3.6. Please have organize necessary services for assistance."

"Received. We will be awaiting your arrival. Be advised, we do have the Endeavour's Chief Engineer on board. Shall we include her in the coordination?"

"Affirmative. Have her begin going over the data and read up on the ship's functions of availability. Most of the ship is sectioned off and unable to be accessed so it will be difficult."

"Received. 427 out."

Docked and rushing up the the conference room of the Starbase with an escort provided by the station CO, Jovi hoped that some form of action plan was in progress.

It had been a whirlwind since Liz has arrived at starbase 427, she had already received her new assignment. Not only would she be quickly reassigned she was also thrown into solving a bug invasion problem on her new ship. From the extremely extensive scans provided her and the makeshift team it was clear that the life forms invading the Endeavour were not your typical bug.

"No, giving them a massive dose of Gama radiation may kill the bugs but it would kill any crew near the EPS conduit systems" Liz said to the technician who gave the current suggestion.

"The best option from all of the suggestions is still the bug trap" Liz commented leaving little room for suggestion" she was about to continue with the latest iteration of the trap when she noticed someone with a Commodore's rank enter the room "COMMODORE ON DECK" She shouted standing at attention.

"As you were," Commodore Varela nodded as she paused briefly before making her way towards the head of the table. "Have we any plan laid out yet?"

Liz and the rest of the engineers relaxed on command, "Yes Sir, according to the scans that you made during your time within sensor range these bugs have a large attraction the the power requirements of the Endeavour. We have a plan to link several portable power units together and augment them with modified pattern enhancement modules" Pulling up the schematic on the plan she continued, "Setting up in cargo bay 3 will enable us to open the floor and suck all the bugs out once we attract them to a power source that they cannot resist" Liz stood at attention awaiting the Commodore's comments.

Jovi nodded and thought it over. Worst case scenario they would have to initial the auto destruct, if they were able to get on board. "Sounds like a plan. There was a weak spot in the shields over here that I saw where we can get a transporter signal through if we get close enough. Plant the generators here..." she continued pointing to a large room designated as a cargo bay on the display. "Get out. Add in transport targets so that we can get everything that comes in the vicinity in one shot."

Looking around the table, she dropped her voice a shade. "Get it prepped. Let me know when you are ready to launch. I'm going to be in with base command on a vid-link to Starfleet Command to secure orders to destroy the ship...as a last resort. We can't risk these ... bugs reaching colonized planets or other vessels. You have your orders."
