Hail to the Queen

Posted on Sun Mar 27th, 2011 @ 7:44pm by Lieutenant Lianna Vanders & Lieutenant JG Nessa Jenarian & EMH Mark IX "Nina"

Mission: Bug-Eyed Bogies
Location: Main Shuttlebay

Li continued to run through the corridors, with the queen right behind her. She could still hear the distant angry sounds of the queen in pursuit. Of course, she had a plan to deal with her. She finally entered the main shuttlebay.

She approached the shuttlebay's control console and began to type on it. "Security Override Accepted." Li then detached the shoulder strap from the phaser rifle and wrapped it around one of the legs to the security console. "Lieutenant Vanders, what the hell are you doing?" She said to herself. "Why the hell are you using yourself as bait, for an uglier than hell queen insect thing, that you're going to blast out of the damn shuttlebay." She attached the shoulder strap to herself. "You do realize that your CO is going to assign you to counseling for this sh*t."

She held still as she heard the sounds of the queen approaching. With one hand, she pushed a button on the console. "Emergency, shuttlebay doors opening in thirty seconds." The Computer responded.

"Lieutenant, how long?" came the voice of the science officer through the comm system. Nessa had been working on getting transporters working to execute the plan the betazoid had come up with and she knew she had very little time as she was pretty much leaning onto the console, doing all she could to not start squirming in pain due to the bug larvae as they continued to slowly render her leg more and more useless with their feeding.

The Computer responded, "Twenty-Five Seconds until Shuttlebay Doors open." Li spoke, "Not long enough." She plainly stated.

"Don't worry, lieutenant. I got your back," came the science officer's voice through the comm once again. Her fingers were working to the best of her ability on the console in front of her. Rerouting the transporters directly to the warp coil meant that the system would overload and be useless until the burned out relays were repaired, but it would keep everyone alive. She brushed the sweat-soaked hair off her face before adding, "I have transporter lock. Just let me know when."

Li held her position, as the room became quiet. "Not yet. I want her in good position." The Computer spoke again. "Shuttlebay Doors opening in fifteen seconds." Behind her, something dropped down from the ceiling and began to advance on Li. She turned toward it and smiled. "So, it ends like this? Doesn't it? We've been trying to kill each other for a good twelve hours. I think I'll miss you when you're gone."

It began to approach Li. Slowly. She got the thought of some primitive form of admiration from the queen. But that soon gave way to the desire to kill her. Li grinned. "Oh don't fool yourself. I always have a plan." The computer finally spoke, "Shuttlebay doors opening in ten, nine, eight...." The Queen was disturbed and looked around. It tried darting for one of the doors, in order to run into a forcefield. "Now Ensign!!" The shuttlebay doors opened and Li was swept off her feet. The strap to the console caught her, and it was the only lifeline Li had. The queen tried flying toward Li and managed to catch one of her legs as the artificial atmosphere was being sucked out of the room.

Hearing those words, Nessa punched the button that would transport Lieutenant Vanders over to engineering. Just as the betazoid coalesced into existence, a small explosion was heard from another deck where several relays fused themselves together, making the transporters completely inoperable until replaced. The science officer turned her head toward Lianna, smiling weakly as her lips opened to speak, only for her to be cut off by a shrill shriek. Just as Nessa turned to see exactly what was happening, one of the remaining guardian bugs barrelled into her, lifting the human straight into the air and almost disembowelling her with its claw before collapsing to the ground.

The science officer flew through the air for another few feet before crashing into a wall and slumping down to the ground. While her injury was not immediately life-threatening, it would certainly become so if left unattended for too long and the adrenaline rush from the sudden attack gave her a bit of time before she passed out from the pain. Her arms moved as a trickle of blood ran down from the corner of her mouth. She managed to pull both her phaser pistol and the tricorder she was carrying, aiming the weapon and the small device's scanners toward the bug on the floor. Reading the results from the scanner, she dropped the phaser and tapped her comm badge. "Jenarian to bridge. The queen is dead and the other bugs appear to have been neutralized," she said, not elaborating exactly what she meant by the last part as her eyes closed and she fell into unconsciousness.

Li managed to pull herself up, and she began to stumble toward Nessa. "Owww good god. Now I have to drag your a** to sickbay."

---

Li stumbled into sickbay, with a sprain in her leg from the queen trying to hold onto it, and at the same time, carrying Ensign Jenarian all the way to sickbay. "Hey Holonurse, we're home."

"Lieutenant, I am not a holonurse," the hologram replied, as she moved over to lift the Ensign onto a biobed. "I am a holographic doctor, programmed in an extensive database of techniques. There is a significant different between a doctor and a nurse."

Li helped Jenarian onto a biobed before she stumbled over to a chair and plopped down. "Ugh, Commanding a starship is a b**ch, and I am never going to command one again."

Nessa was still unconscious, though her whole body would shiver on random occasion, possibly due to the amount of blood lost during the long trek to sickbay. Her breathing was short and ragged, her uniform torn at the abdomen where the creature had struck and ripped through her clothing and skin, leaving a gruesomely looking gash.

"I have to get the Ensign to surgery, immediately," Nina reported, quickly grabbing a grav-stretcher, and shifting the Ensign over to it, before retreating with the wounded officer through the door marked Operating Theatre - the Lieutenant's injury was minor by comparison, and the hologram had prioritised, knowing that she had to act now to save the Ensign.
