Mission: Kingdom Come
Location: Chief Counselor Office
Timeline: TBD

Evelyn walked the quiet corridor to her office at 07:45. 15 minutes was plenty of time to clear out some paperwork and go over the file of her first patient this morning. She had been up since 0400, her Vulcan genetics provided her with the need for less sleep than most of her human comrades, but 3 hours was cutting it close even for her.
The first stop she made once inside the safe confines of her office was the replicator, "Vulcan tea blend 4 hot." Picking up the mug that materialized she looked about her comfortably decorated office. A plush couch and a couple of overstuffed chairs surrounding a coffee table took up the main space. A desk was kept neatly in order in the corner of the room, the only personal objects were some antique books and a painting of a moonlight seascape. Sera had painted that before the accident.
Pushing her personal thoughts away she picked up the Padd containing the file for her first patient, Lt. JG Mykel Owen, Chief Flight control officer. Scanning the file she noted anything of import in his background, including the fact he was an orphan. That rarely happened in this day and age. It must be hard on him, though you wouldn't know it by his service record. After reading his file and noting things she might need she put it aside. The best way to help someone is to find out such things in their own words. The door chime broke her musings. "Come"

Mykel stepped into the office, looking around briskly, before turning to the Half Vulcan, and extending his hand. "Its nice to meet you Counselor." He said as he nodded, still not quite sure to make of the Woman. Mykel had plenty of experience with "counselors" in his past, and was still uneasy with most, especially after his time in the Marines, though the idea of a Half Vulcan one did intrigue him.

Evelyn smiled warmly and grasped the Lieutenants hand firmly. "A pleasure to meet you as well Lieutenant. And please call me Evelyn, or Sol whichever you prefer." She gestured to the sitting area where the two plush chairs and overstuffed couch resided. "Please have a seat, make yourself comfortable. Im just enjoying my first cup of tea, can I get you a refreshment?" she asked politely. Mykel's past intrigued her, and she wanted all the crew, especially the senior staff to avail themselves of her open door policy.

"Alright then Evelyn, please call me Mykel." He smiled and looked at the seating options, before deciding on one of the chairs. "Some water please, with ice." He replied, sitting in the chair closest the window.

After retrieving his order from the replicator she passed him his water and sat in the chair across from the young man. "Alright Mykel. Well this is just a standard getting to know you thing, and at the end I will get your thoughts on the people in your department. Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself and your history, it helps to know the senior staff you are serving with, don't you agree?"

He noded, taking a sip of the water, while settling into the large chair. "Yes I do suppose so.' he says slowly. "Well I was born on earth, spent most of my childhood in and around California. I'm sure you read in my file I was orphaned, so I joined the Marines when I turned 17, and Starfleet Academy two years later...." He finishes, crossing a leg over the other.

Evelyn watched the young man speak very matter-of-factly about such a sad beginning. It was a rare thing for the system to fail a youth found without family. There were very few children without permanent homes on Earth. It must be hard to be surrounded by people that had families waiting for them at home, and have none to claim of your own. She knew she was blessed still having her mother, father and uncle alive and well back on Earth, but she understood loneliness. It was something she suffered with a lot since the death of the love of her life.

"I have read your file, but I would rather get any information you'd like to share directly from you." she paused before deciding to voice her earlier thoughts. "It must be hard to be surrounded by people who are all parts of families and to have none of your own to claim. Do you have close friends? Perhaps from the academy or earlier posts or even aboard this ship?" she asked gently. Interpersonal relationships are things we learn from growing up people that are close to you. Mykel had a gleaming service record and seemed well balanced especially considering his lack of a family foundation, but everyone needs people. Its human nature.

Mykel exhaled slowly through his nose, taking a sip of the water, before answering. "Yes it can be quite troubling at times, but I have learned to deal with it over the years." Mykel shook his head "I have a few comrades from the Marines, and a couple from flight school, but none 'close' as one would say. I have always been reserved from the public, a trait I have recently decided to attempt to discontinue."

Evelyn smiled kindly. Self awareness is always half the battle with any problem. "That's good. I know sometimes its easier said than done. I am here to help if you like. Its always easier entering the social scene with someone you already know. Just let me know." she said, she didn't want to pressure him but was quite sincere in the offer. Perhaps they could take a couple of meals together and she could serve as a buffer to get to know the other crew members. Taking another sip of her tea Evelyn suddenly realized she hadn't taken a meal with someone, even for business, in at least a year. Pushing the intruding thought aside she continued. "Sometimes in our line of work we forget about personal lives. Socializing is something everyone needs, you're a step ahead of a lot of us in realizing that." she finished, ignoring the irony of her words given her own situation.

Mykel smiled slightly, nodding. "Thats is very true. I played a game of chess with the new Tact guy the other day. Closest thing to a conversation I have had with someone not work related in quite some time." Mykel shrugged "I usually work first shift with the Captain so I would be willing to meet you in a public place, for a meal at some point this up coming week."

"Sounds good," Evelyn replied sincerely. She finished her tea and adjusted in her chair. "How are you doing with the crew in your department? I hear you are an excellent pilot, your file is full of commendations. What drew you to the helm?"

Mykel shrugged slightly and smiled. "I'm not really sure, I love to fly, and it keeps me concentrated." He sipped some more of his drink, and continued. "The department is doing great. I'm just trying to even out everyone's flight hours now. Seems the previous Chief only liked having six or seven of the best pilots ever flying, I'm putting an end to that."

Evelyn nodded. The chief helmsman was a remarkable man, despite his past. "Seems like you have it all under control. Is there anything else you would like to talk about while we are here?"

"Not that I can think of, thank you very much." Mykel was, for the first time, beginning to like the idea of having a consular on the ship. He felt comfortable speaking with her, no doubt a trait she had honed to perfection. Smiling he concluded. "I look forward to lunch, Counselor Sol"

"As do I Lieutenant." she replied with a smile. Evelyn stood rose when he stood to leave, "if you ever need to talk, you know where to find me."
