Wandering the Surface

Mission: Kingdom Come
Location: Nevarra

[ON]

Ballards footsteps seemed to ring out across the courtyard. Lush vegetation seemed to jut out from every sun-drenched orifice in the walls. It was beautiful, he had to admit. After a time, the sterility of a starship could begin to stifle one's more creative thought processes and a walk in the sun could be just what he needed. He noticed Owen, Tyler and Jenarian engaged in conversation in a small archway. It was strange to see them off the bridge of the Endeavour; out of context in a way.

He approached them with the heels of his boots still creating a piercing click in every step. "Enjoying the sunshine, Lieutenants, Ensign?"

Mykel nodded in response to the Xo's question.

"The Captain's given us some time to go for a wander and see the sights." Narayn said. "Strictly speaking, we're off duty for the next couple of hours. I downloaded a map from one of the console ports in the palace and it seems like there's a little 'old town' about ten minutes walk from the front gate, you know- ancient architecture and whatnot- which I'm going to go and check out. You're all welcome to join me if you'd like."

Evelyn smiled warmly. This was her first post aboard a vessel, and it had been a while since she had been planet side. Having previously been posted in San Francisco, she missed having her feet on land and breathing fresh air. The light breeze felt amazing. "That sounds enjoyable, I think I'll take you up on that offer Commander."

Dylan was actually reading the report from the ensign he had left with the detail with the captain. Very efficiently written, though Dylan couldn't help but wonder if there was a hint of sarcasm in the ensign's report. The captain spoke to the Nevarran leader, took a bite of something that with initial testing is not poisoned (testing being that the captain is alive twenty minutes after eating it.

Dylan knew that he was being overly cautious, but he was just a little apprehensive. The captain seemed to go in with no sense of the danger he was in. There has got to be some kind of line between profession diplomacy and an alert sense of danger and from what Dylan could see, the Captain didn't have it.

Ballard clapped his hand down on the Security Chief's shoulder. He was just a kid trying to impress his bosses, when all was said and done. Truth told, his actions since taking over as department head hadn't gone unnoticed. "Don't worry, Lieutenant. The Captain's just fine. He has one of your security details keeping an eye on him. And if you can't trust a Starfleet grunt then what kind of grunt can you trust?" He asked with a stifled snort of laughter.

"I would trust the ensign to do his duty, sir," Dylan smiled. Hoping the smile would ease the tension he felt, it didn't.

Evelyn saw the tension in Dylan's strained smile. She hoped he would take some time to relax. It was a beautiful city. And they were outside, in the warm natural sun, she was certainly going to take advantage of it. It felt wonderful to be under the sun. "Come on Lieutenant, you could use some fresh air." she chimed in lightly.

"I wholeheartedly concur. Plus- what if someone tries to shoot us?" Ballard chuckled before adding with faux panic. "Who will protect me?!"

Mykel chuckled lightly, and was almost surprised by how good it felt to do so...it had been longer than he realized. Turning to Lt Tyler, Mykel lightly claped him on the back. "Come on, this is a diplomatic mission, and it is both our responsibility, and duty, to experiance this culture so we might share it with our peers, on our return." He said, trying his hardest, with marginal sucess, to hold a straight face..." And someone said they have a delightful spirits collection, I would like to sample."

Just before the group left to head towards the older part of the city, Benjamin came at a quick trot down the long set of steps which led in from one side of the courtyard, having located his officers within it. "Commander!" he called as he approached, a content smile on his face at being out and about on a planet with such a nice climate and aesthetics as this one. "Off to anywhere interesting?" he asked as he reached them.

"Captain." Narayn acknowledged his superior with a curt nod of the head. "I was just suggesting that we head down to the old part of town. It's apparently only a stone's throw from here. At least, according to this map it is. Would you care to join us?"

"Most definitely," Benjamin answered, clearly delighted to have the chance to see the older parts of the city. His whole childhood was based around historical sights, and archaeology had always been one of his favourite hobby areas - it would be fascinating to see how the old town fared up to the modern needs of the city's people. "Lead the way."

Mykel nodded to the CO, as he joined the group. "Hey Sir, managed to escape the delegates?" He asked with a smirk

"Eventually, yes," Benjamin responded, matching Mykel's smirk. "Thankfully the negotiators wanted to discuss a few more things before their official meeting with the Nevarran negotiation team tomorrow, and I was able to slip out before I got roped into it too."

"I'm quite sure they'll be unmissably exciting," Ballard commented sarcastically, "Apparently the old town has some really nice markets. According to the information I managed to glean, the local population still grow a lot of produce that we would be familiar with on Earth but with some tweaks. Something to do with the environment, I imagine."

"Well, I'm sure that they wouldn't be adverse to us stocking up a little on the ship's supplies while we're here," Benjamin said cheerfully. "Let's go have a look."

Mykel smiled and nodded, thrilled to try some new produce, and whatever else the Nevarrans had to offer.
