:: Sophie's Quarters
"Pu'chaj buSlaH ngoteh'.. pu'chaj buSlaH ngotlhwI' ", Sophie shook her head, the harsh Klingon pronunciation was something she still struggled with. Her previous ship had mainly flown near the Klingon border, so she had tried to pick up the language, but was still busy learning. Tonight however wasn't her best night, it just wasn't going well, it had been a busy day after all.
Slightly frustrated she walked over to the small replicator, ordered a tea and picked it up. In her frustration she had forgotten to pause the program and jumped up when the Klingon voice echoed through her quarters. The boiling hot water splashed over her hands and she dropped the cup with a scream. Cursing in her native language she took a step back and looked at her hands. This didn't look good and she really couldn't use something like this while her next shift probably would be as busy as today. "Great.."
:: Sickbay
A few minutes later, Sophie entered sickbay. She noticed a young doctor and approached him, her hands held up. "Tea and clumsiness," she explained, with a shy smile.
The Doctor was Lieutenant Kalin Jerome. He looked up immediately saw how burnt the young woman was. He smiled in a reassuring wasy and inspected the burns. "It's nothing too serious. Maybe a small scar for a few days, but it should fade. I have a cream some where...Very effective...It got rid of my burns on the side of my leg when fell into...well...they're gone now now...shame they didn't take the memory with them..." After a moment of fumbling in a cupboard, he produced a small tube of cream. He held it up to her. "This cream should fix the scarred skin, while the cooling agent, should sooth the pain. If it doesn't work come back we'll see if we can give you some stronger stuff." He held it out to her, "I'd put some on now if I were you. The pain should stop after a while."
"Ah, thank you," Sophie said. She clenched her jaws to fight the pain in her hands as she opened the tube. Carefully she applied a thin layer of the cream to her now swollen fingers and hands. "Will this be enough?" She asked Kalin. The medicine immediately took some of the sting out of the pain and cooled a bit, but because of her condition her wounds healed slowly. Von Willebrand's disease was usually nothing more than an annoyance in this era, but she hated it at moments like this. Despite everything she smiled, "Should teach me to pay attention when I'm holding something hot."
"Maybe a little more... well, come see me if you need somthing stronger or if you get hurt again, I'll be more then happy to give you something for it."
"I hope that won't be necessary, but thank you." Sophie applied some more of the cream to her hands. For a moment she looked around. "It's quiet here," she noticed. "Everyone is probably on the station, right? I wish I had the opportunity to see it. I mean, it's been here for a long and from what I've heard it's just as if the original inhabitants pulled the plug and left. I'm so curious who these people were, what were they doing here? And why would they leave it behind like this? It doesn't look like they were attacked or anything and as far as I know they haven't found any bodies yet, so it probably wasn't a disease or anything that drove them away." She shrugged, it would probably take a while before she would know. Most of her knowledge about the station so far was based on mess hall rumors and predictions, anyway. "Have you been there?"
"No not yet, but I hope to go and have a look around myself. If any bodies do turn up, they'll need me to have a look at them" He replied. "The usual injuries that come in are from engineering, and they can be...creative with what they get, but it usually rather quiet, yes." He suddenly had an idea. A small glint flashed in his eyes. "Say, Sophie. What do you say to a little excitement. I'm free this evening, and it will be a good way for us new guys to get to know one another..."
"Excitement?" Sophie gave him a skeptical, but amused look. "Like a holode-" Kalin cuts her off.
"On the station...Deep space 19..."
"I'm sorry, what?" Sophie replied, thinking she might have misunderstood him. "You're joking, right? You mean actually go to the station now?" She looked up at him and suddenly grinned. "Oh, why not. I guess we'll be fine as long as we don't disturb anyone or anything." Curiosity was getting the better of her. She wanted to see the inside of the station for so long now and it sometimes felt as if she was the only one who hadn't seen it so far. Well, apart from Kalin, apparently. She giggled, excited. "What could go wrong, right?"
Kalin grinned, devilishly: "My thoughts exactly. I'll just switch 'Nina' on for when I get my breaks. Come on, we should bring a few more people. My sister, gave me a going away present: a few pints, or 'real' beer, not the subtitute we usually get. I was planning of saving it for a special occation, but I think it's arrived early, in the form of an abandoned Station. I'll meet you in the transporter room. We shouln't wait too late: there's no telling whats on the ship, but a few drinks to celebrate our first mission together, a little music, maybe a few nibbles? Even the captain can't object to that. I know a guy down in engineering, who will just just love this. He's on duty though, so we will have to be extra quiet. We could meet up with him and the others. I'll just get the drinks, and have a music player in my room, I'll bring that too. See you in about ten minuets"
Sophie laughed with excitement. "Sounds like an excellent plan to me. I'll run to my quarters to change into something without wet sleeves and then I'll see you guys in the transporter room in a couple of minutes." She grinned, "keep one of those beers cool for me, but don't forget to wear something warm. It's still rather cold over there."
