Permission to Come Aboard?

Posted on Wed Feb 24th, 2010 @ 1:14pm by Captain Benjamin Byrne & Lieutenant Lyon Winters

Mission: Metronian Diplomacy
Location: Various (USS Endeavour + USS Thomas Paine)
Timeline: MD05 2000hrs

"Commander we're approaching the coordinates." The crewman at the helm was the beta shift replacement of Mister Solomon, and though young, endeavoured to speak with confidence when relaying information to the senior staff.

"Take us out of warp," Benjamin ordered, as he tapped a few controls on his chair's arm. As the Sovereign class starship reverted back to sublight speeds with a flash of light, the view of a New Orleans class starship appeared on the viewscreen, perpendicular to the Endeavour's course. "Bring us along their starboard side," Ben said, and watched as the crewman manipulated the controls to bring the ship parallel to the other.

"USS Thomas Paine, this is Endeavour. I believe you have someone for us?" Ben said, tapping the control on his chair to send the message to the other ship.

Onboard the Thomas Paine, Lyon's gear was packed and ready to go in Transporter Room 1. He was partway through saying his farewells to the bridge crew and senior staff.

"It has been an honour serving with you Mr. Winters, we wish you well in your new post. The Endeavour is a fine ship with a fine captain," said Captain Bartholomew Jones as he shook Lyon's hand.

"Thankyou Sir, it's been a pleasure serving under yourself. My time onboard the Thomas Paine has been wonderful, I shall miss her."

Turning slightly to the XO, Lyon was saying his farewell when the Ensign manning the Tactical console interrupts, "Sir, we have an incoming starship, Sovereign class.....it's the Endeavour."

"Very good Ms. Walker. Mr. Winters, looks like your ship has arrived," the Captain responded.

"The Endeavour is hailing us sir," the Ensign said.

"Onscreen." The screen started displaying the Endeavour's bridge, showing the sleek design compared to the older style onboard the Tomas Paine. It zoomed to the Captain as he began speaking;

"USS Thomas Paine, this is Endeavour. I believe you have someone for us?"

"Indeed we do Endeavour. Lieutenant Winters will be over very shortly. Many thanks for the rendezvous. Thomas Paine out."

"Well Lieutenant, it looks like you'd best not keep your new ship waiting. God Speed and Good Fortune," the Captain said smiling.

Looking wistfully around the bridge, his home for almost ten years, Lyon straightens up and saluting the Captain, "Permission to leave the ship sir?" he asks with a smile.

"Granted. Now get out of here before Captain Byrne changes his mind!" he responded with his own answering grin.

Making his way to Transporter Room 1, Lyon reflected on his time spent onboard the Thomas Paine. He had loved his time here but felt the need to move on. Goodbye old girl, keep them safe, he thought to the ship as he entered the transporter room. Grabbing his two bags he stood on one of the pads. "Take care Chief, I still need to beat you at poker!" Lyon said to the CPO smiling before tapping his commbadge, "Lieutenant Winters to Endeavour, one to beam over."

As soon as the call to the Thomas Paine had been closed, Benjamin made his way down to the transporter room, ready to welcome aboard his new officer. As he walked the decks of the ship, he passed various crewmembers going about their duties, or heading to their quarters or the lounge to enjoy their time off duty. Reaching the maroon coloured door to the transporter room, he stepped though, as it opened automatically on his approach.

"Lieutenant Winters is ready for transport, Sir," the transporter chief informed him as he stepped through the threshold.

"Very good, energise."

As the order was given, the transporter pad lit up, and through the blue shimmering light, appeared the figure of the new security officer.

As the small transporter room onboard the Thomas Paine faded away it was replaced by the larger room onboard the Endeavour. Lyon saw the transporter chief and the captain in front of him awaiting his arrival. Putting his kitbags on the floor, he straightened up, "Lieutenant Lyon Winters requesting permission to come aboard Sir."

"Permission granted, Lieutenant," Benjamin said, stepping forward to shake the man's hand. "I apologise for not being able to meet you at Cestus III, but we're on a bit of a tight schedule at the moment."

“Thank you sir, I understand the tight scheduling,” Lyon said as he returned the handshake. Picking up his kitbags he said “I must congratulate you sir, she is a beautiful ship.”

Stepping off the transporter pad, he nods to the transporter chief before asking the Captain, “Sir, when will my duty shift start?”.

Ben turned and began to lead the officer out of the transporter room and tapped his combadge to the bridge before responding to the question. "Bridge, send my thanks to the Thomas Paine, and resume course. Warp nine."

As the two walked down the corridors of the ship, Ben clasped his hands behind his back as he explained to the new officer. "We're on Beta shift right now, so you're not required for duty on the bridge until oh-eight-hundred. The roster does have you on duty in the security office during beta shift, but I'll obviously skip the court martial if you allow one of the staff to fill in there for you today."

Falling into step beside the captain he listened as he explained about the roster. Not sure if the captain was joking about the court martial Lyon replied, “That’s fine, I can start straight away sir. Besides, it’ll give me some time to settle in and look through the reports getting up to speed on the Endeavour after dropping my kit off.”

Realising he didn’t know where his quarters were, “Sir, where will my quarters be? I can drop my kit off now and make a start.”

Ben consulted the PADD he had been carrying briefly to remind himself of the exact location of the room. "Your assigned quarters are on Deck 5, Section 19-Alpha," he told the Lieutenant, before handing him the PADD with the details on as they stepped into a turbolift. "Bridge," Benjamin instructed it. He had a few things to take care of in his ready room, and he knew that after Lyon had instructed the lift to take him to Deck 5, it would stop at both locations, as the latter was on the way to the Bridge.

Taking the PADD from the Captain, Lyon gave the PADD a cursory glance and stated to the Computer, "Deck 5". After the turbolift started moving he turned to the Captain and asked, "Sir, should I head to the bridge after dropping off my gear? It should only take me a few minutes and I can't wait to get started."

"Report to me on the bridge when you're done then," Benjamin said, as the lift stopped to let the Lieutenant off at Deck 5.
