Onward, Into the Unknown

Posted on Thu Apr 22nd, 2010 @ 5:39pm by Captain Benjamin Byrne & Lieutenant JG Nessa Jenarian & Lieutenant Chihiro Ogino MD & Lieutenant JG Aurora Foster & Lieutenant Commander Hannah Edroski & Provisional Lieutenant Commander Narayn Ballard

Mission: Metronian Diplomacy
Location: Observation Lounge
Timeline: MD22 1830hrs

Having ordered a staff meeting, Benjamin had since spent the last half an our standing with a cup of coffee, staring out of the curved windows of the Observation lounge, the only thoughts going through his mind being the current situation they found themselves in. Already he had lost two crew, in a sense. Commander Anderson had requested a leave of duty to care for his son, who seemed to be suffering from an illness of some kind; as far as Ben understood it, it had something to do with either flight sickness from his lessons in the holodeck, or more symptoms of the holoemitter malfunctions he had ordered Lieutenant Kinu to look into. He was also down a Chief Helmsman, who had injured himself while working on the systems of one of the shuttles; in attempting to re-configure components of the helm controls aboard, he had inadvertently given himself plasma burns, and had to be relieved of duty on medical grounds.

Taking a sip of his coffee, immediately pulling a face after realising how cold it had gotten, Benjamin continued to wait for the appointed hour when the meeting he had called would take place.

Chihiro was the first to enter. "Everything ok Commander?" she asked nicely before taking her seat on the curved table.

"As good as can be," Benjamin responded, as he continued to look out into space.

Aurora hurried down the corridor and into the briefing room. "Sorry sir. Lieutenant Kinu could not make it so she has asked me to come instead." Aurora took her seat and waited nervously.

It was time to be the only enlisted man at an officer's meeting again. Brilliant, Narayn thought as he stomped across the bridge. It wasn't that he had a problem with officers but the younger and more ambitious amongst them tended to be less than supportive of an enlisted man with experience, often preferring their theoretical knowledge, learned at the Academy.

He entered the room and gave a polite nod to the assembled officers. He placed his report on the state of the enlisted men in front of the commander before stepping to the other end of the table to take his seat.

Cautiously stepping within the briefing room, Nessa seemed to be the last to arrive. She gave a short nod to everyone present and sat down within one of the remaining empty chairs, not really being one for salutes and the like.

"OK everyone, let's see where we're at." Ben turned from the window as the last person entered, and placed his cup of cold coffee on the corner of the table. "Ensign; were you able to get a fix on where exactly we are?"

"Afraid not, Sir." Nessa replied with a slight frown on her features. "Things are quite a bit more complicated as we are not within the Milky Way any longer. Basing our location off of the star charts would certainly take a while, but I'll see about trying to pinpoint our location a bit better than what I have managed so far, which is practically close to nothing."

"OK, try and get a fix on which galaxy we're in. That'll at least give us some sort of idea of how far we are from home. Doctor," Byrne continued, looking towards Chihiro. "Have their been any adverse effects on the crew from the... trip over here?"

"Not that I can tell, they all seem to be fine" Chihiro reported.

Nodding, Ben turned towards the yellow-collared officers in the room. "Lieutenant," he said, addressing the one Lieutenant Kinu had sent from Engineering, and making a mental note to speak with the chief engineer about it at the earliest opportunity. "What about the ship itself? Any malfunctions we should know about?"

"We've gotten the ship wide Hologrid fixed. Other then that there are no malfunctions."

Nodding, Byrne looked to everyone present. In addition to the one who had spoken, there was also Lieutenant Winters, Lieutenant JG Stott (NPC) and Chief Ballard. "OK, so here is the situation. We are stranded in an unknown region of space, outside our own galaxy. There are two groups here who obviously seem to be hostile with each other. Before we left our own galaxy, the Metrons told me we would be tested. I've been looking through the records of the Enterprise from their only encounter with the Metrons, and I can only come to the conclusion that their conflict has something to do with this test. We will proceed to follow the last ship which left the area at warp 5," Byrne told them.

"Lieutenant Stott," Byrne continued, turning towards the Operations Officer. "I want continuous scans run of the area surrounding us, maximum sensor range. Send any astrological data down to the cartography lab. Ensign, I want you down there trying to give us a better idea of where we are."

Stott looked towards Byrne and said to him ,"Understood,Sir. Will get the scan underway once we are dismissed.," Then turned back to his own work.

"Chief," Byrne said, turning towards the NCO next. "I want you to go through the sensor logs of when we first arrived. Find out every detail you can of those two ships before we reach our destination."

"Aye, aye sir. I'll pull them apart and have a report on your desk in two hours." The Chief replied.

Nodding to signal the briefing was finished and he was satisfied, Byrne said, "Let's get to work. Dismissed."
