First Impressions

Mission:
Metronian Diplomacy
Location: Edge of Obrinkahn Imperium Space
Timeline: MD25 1308hrs
As the Endeavour approached the location of the coordinates they had been given, the computers bleeped with a contact on long-range sensors. "Report," Benjamin ordered, looking to Mr. Stott.
"Single ship. Matches configurations we were given of an Obrinkahn heavy cruiser," the Bolian replied.
"Analysis, Mister Stott?" Benjamin ordered, looking over to the engineering stations, where most of the data Lt. Kinu had sent was being stored.
"The ship is larger than us, Sir," the Bolian reported. "But we have the advantage of weapon and shield strength. It would appear that Lieutenant Kinu's assessment was correct; their systems are too oversized to match ours like-for-like."
"Well, at least we know if it comes down to gunboat diplomacy, we'll have the upper hand," Benjamin said, though he hoped it wouldn't come to that. "Take us to impulse power. All hands at readiness stations... open a hailing frequency."
"Hailing frequency open, commander," the helmsman reported, tapping controls at his station.
"Obrinkahn vessel," Benjamin began. "This is the Federation Starship Endeavour, please respond."
They waited for a few minutes, with no response. As Benjamin started to repeat his statement, the image of the ship's commander appeared on-screen.
"More Arktina spies?" The alien commander demanded. "First you send a heavily armed scout ship to cause chaos and destruction under the name of this 'Federation', and now when you come to investigate why its mission failed, you hold to this lie?"
"Captain," Byrne began, a confused frown appearing on his brow. "I'm afraid there has been some kind of mis-understanding. What 'scout ship'? To my knowledge we are the only Federation ship in this region of space."
"Pah! I mean the scout ship piloted by this female infiltrator!" With this statement, he pulled a human woman into shot of the viewscreen with a firm grip on her hair. The woman was clearly starfleet, though her uniform was torn in some places.
Edroski stumbled foward when he pulled her into view. She looked terrible for lack of a better term. Her hair was in strands and the tie looked about to break around the long black braid. Her arm looked awkwardly positioned and cut up terribly. She limped when he brought her foward. She had brusies and cuts all over her visible skin. Something that they would probably notice also is the small bump a mother would get in second trimester. She also looked undernourished and dehydrated.
"Captain, this woman is part of our organisation. She requires medical attention, please let us bring her aboard," Benjamin said, forgetting for the moment the strife between the Arktina and the Obrinkahn.
"So you admit to having sent her to attack us?"
"No, Captain. Whatever she was doing there, I can assure you there was no hostile intent." Benjamin could tell that it would be difficult to get the Captain to send over the Lieutenant who had clearly undergone some kind of interrogation. Turning to Stott, he asked; "Lieutenant, can you get a lock on her?"
"I can't get a lock, the alloy in their hull is disrupting the targeting sensors." Stott (NPC) replied, now seated at the Operations console. "Bridge to transporter room, recalibrate the targetting sensors to compensate,"
=A=Recalibrating now sir =A= Came a response from the Engineer's mate whom had already been in the Transporter room checking on some unusual readings, thus he had been the logical choice to choose to recalibrate the transporters.
"Captain, we are here to try and help you solve your dispute with the Arktina. They are open to a peaceful settlement of the situation between the two of you. If you would just return the Lieutenant..."
"Maybe I should order your ship to be captured too," the Obrinkahn was smiling now. "Something that size could hardly hold up against the Pehk'than. By capturing a whole crew of Arktina infiltrators, I'm sure I earn a promotion from General Idithid.."
That comment turned Byrne's expression cold. "Raise shields. Power phasers and arm quantum torpedoes," he ordered, waiting while his orders were carried out. "Feel free to scan my ship," he said after a few moments' pause. "You will see that regardless of our size, we carry superior weapons and shields. You will not win against us in an open conflict."
The Obrinkahn looked shocked as an officer off-screen gave him a read-out of sensor readings from the Endeavour. After a long silence, he almost stuttered; "Your technology is not Arktinan. Y.... you say you wish to mediate?" His tone was confused and embarrassed. He knew he couldn't continue as he had before, but knew that going back so suddenly was going to lose him serious reputation.
"Send over our officer first," Byrne said, knowing that their weapons were still charged.
"Yes... yes. We'll ah... we'll send her over to you in the ship she came in. With that, the screen flicked off.
"Lower shields, stand down weapons, and open the shuttlebay doors," Byrne said, as he turned to leave the bridge at a fast stride. "Doctor Ogino, meet me in shuttlebay one,"
"Aye sir" Chihiro said as she packed up a med kit and headed off towards the shuttlebay.
