Party Time

Mission:
Deep Space 19
Location: Endeavour, DS19
Sophie cheerfully walked into the transporter room. After all this time she would finally get to see the mysterious space station with her own eyes. To avoid getting cold on the station she wore a warm, purple vest from an Andorian brand. It had been Thela's once, but she had given it to Sophie as she was always cold when they were in the Andorian's quarters.
She looked around and noticed that Kalin wasn't there yet, so she leaned against a console and chatted a bit with the transporter chief, while she waited for the others to arrive.
A few minutes later, Kalin strode around the corner; a large bag hung on his back.
"Ok, Sophie, you ready?" He said with a grin. "Transport two. Energise!"
[[Deep Space Nineteen]]
Kalin and Sophie left in a twinkle of light, as they faded from view. They reappeared simultaneously, in DS19, thankfully all in one piece. Kalin had never liked transporters, after a particularly messy incident involving a chicken, a brick and several students at the academy. The events were... memorable.
Still, he endured, and opened his eyes, to have a look around. Several starfleet engineers were busy examining a console, while a few other stood over a a pile of cables, attempting to reconnect them to the main system. Standard repairs. He asked an officer where Ethan was. The reply, was vague, to say the least.
"Somewhere down there" He said, while pointing to a wall, not taking his eyes off his console. Kalin then walked off in completely the oppersite direction, and arrived at his destination. Two other Starfleet officers stood with Ethan.
Kalin walked up to them, and tapped Ethan on his shoulder.
When the Main power supply had come on, the need for the environmental suits was reduced, and the three officers, were in there normal uniform rather then the suits they had been wearing recently.
Ethan currently had his head buried in the wall, the detached panel, laying some feet away, while he muttered incoherently to himself, and occasionally glanced at a computer screen, the same crystalline compound the other terminals had, but this one a pale Cyan crystal, with yellow digits on it.
He pulled his head out of the Pannel and shouted in frustration.
"Unbelieveable! I just spent the last three hours trying to get past security safeguards, of what appeared to be the primary defence grid of the station, only to find, lo' and behold! I have succeded in restoring the Recycling systems back to full power! This is just typical! We'd need months to figure out all this tech!"
He turned when Kalin, touched his shoulder, snarling, and reaching for the phaser at his thigh, pausing mid-draw upon the realisation that it was Kalin.
His jaw dropped.
"My God! Kalin! What did you do? How did you mess up the transporters this time! Your look hideous! An abomination!"
"Really? Thats awful!" He said, making a show of checking for abnormalities on his face. "
"I shall not despair! You seem to have managed well enough! Many times in the academy, I have seen you when you wake up in the morning...and the evenings...and pretty much the entire day...and night and continue as though you are not disfigured in anyway. I shall not worry: I will follow your example!"
He said with a laugh. "I come with gifts people! He said loudly in the room. I carry with me, proper beer, non-replicated. Music, and all your- My favourite tracks. I hope you've full power, 'cause this party is going all night long. You are all experiences, a rare form of a disease, called I-Need-To-Party-itus. and I have the cure in my hands!" He proclaimed reaching in his bag and pulled out several bottles of non-replicated, vintage beer.
Sophie chuckled at the interaction between the two. Lucky enough to have never been to the Academy she had missed out on all the scary transporter stories and wasn't too mournful about that. She zipped up her vest as she noticed it was indeed rather cold down here. The coldness and the dim lighting made the space station a bit spooky to see, but Sophie was too excited to finally be here to notice it. She nudged Kalin, "aren't you going to introduce me to your friend? It's not that I mind partying with people I don't know, but it's always nice to get to know new people."
"Of course Sophie. This is my friend Ethan Kessel. I've known him since before the academy, and he and I have got into more trouble together, then anyone on this ship. We're practically brothers! I remember one time we were trying out some new equipment: a phaser I think it was...Anyway to cut a long story short, we had stunned the superviser, disintigrated the target range, and started a small fire, which was soon spreading throughout the coridoors of the academy. All becaused I tripped and fell against the Ethan...who sort of... fired it...
"Nice to meet you Ethan," Sophie said with a smile and extending her hand. The two seemed like a fun duo to party with.
"Hello Sophie". Ethen said, shaking her hand, she seemed like a nice person, and hoped she was up for good time, once the party got started.
"Just warning you, there are a few rather high ranking officers wandering around the station, so If we go ahead with this, don't be afraid to offer them the chance to join in."
He paused.
"How about some music?" He asked. "I have some tracks, but most are from the Rock period of earth's History. Not much modern Music..."
"As long as we don't have to listen to Klingon opera all night, I'm fine. Not that there's anything wrong with Klingon opera, but it's not exactly party music. Even they have something different for that, mainly alcohol though," Sophie joked. She had encountered a lot of different music on her travels and could appreciate a lot, but some styles were just a bit easier to dance to than others.
"And as long as they know how to have a good time, I'm not worried about those officers. Figured out they are just people, a long time ago. Everybody needs occasionally needs an opportunity to relax or let it all out. So why not now?" She shrugged, she tried to treat everyone as respectful as she could, officer or not and expected others to do the same. There was nothing more annoying than having to interact with people who thought they were better just because they had a higher rank. "So, anyway, give us your best song!"
"Alright then!" Ethan flicked out his PAAD and plugged it into the speakers Jerome had bought with the Beer. Very soon a loud pulsing rhythm had burst out of the speakers, and the three enjoyed the music for a long while.
Andorzai's slow progress through the lowest deck of Deep Space 19 was marked by the strange knocking sound that came from some kind of ante room down the hall. Lowest deck was, by quite some way, an exaggeration. This was the lowest deck that they had restored life support on and there was still no light.
His handheld lamp lit the pristine corridor as he approached the source of the dull thud. The ante room lay before him and seemed little more than a large alcove in the corridor. A few scattered seats and vases caught the light but little more.
The beam fell on what looked like a hole in the wall. Whatever it was, it was pretty badly damaged, worn away by the years but it seemed to be some kind of powered chute.
He tapped his comm badge. "Andorzai to Kessel. Ensign, does this station have some kind of recycling system? If so, it appears to be back online."
Ethan jumped when Andorzai commed him.
"Ethan here. Yeah. That power relay we thought was the defense grid was just fixed. But its not the defense grid, its just the recycling systems... Another three hours of my life wasted...Still, sir, you'd better come up here quickly - Deep space 19 is about to get a little more interesting. There's a couple here with some alcohol, and its beginning to look up here - You should come quickly or there won't be any left for you!" Ethan grinned, "I'll save some for you- its just about the end of out shift now anyway. Kessel out."
Andorzai checked his chronometer. The incredibly informal ensign was quite right. Although duty shifts seemed to hold little importance on Deep Space 19, with teams seemingly lost for days, sleeping in umbilicals and abandoned quarters in order to continue with their work. He took a long look around the dimly lit ante room and sighed. "I'll be right there."
Elsewhere aboard the station, Mike was slowly making his way along one of the corridors immediately adjacent to the most thoroughly explored area of the station's interior. A good majority of his time since they'd first discovered the station had been spent accompanying exploration sorties into the unexplored sections of the station and it felt good to finally stretch his legs without an environmental suit slowing him down. Walking also gave him time to be alone to sort out some of the thoughts in his head. Securing an entire station and restoring it to operable status certainly hadn't been his first choice of deep space assignments, but Mike had learned a long time ago to do his best with the hand he was dealt.
Ethan Kessel stepped out of the room for a quick breather, then leaned against the walls for a minute. Perhaps a short walk would clear his head. Kalin look as though he might to "The Dance" and he had broken away as quickly as possible. He set off for a short walk.
The Endeavour's Chief Security/Tactical Officer had just rounded another bend in the corridor when he realized the relative silence he had been enjoying for a majority of his walk had been interrupted. Being this close to one of the major work areas, his first thought was that the noises he was hearing might simply have been one of the engineering teams. He was about to turn around and head back the other direction when he thought he heard the sound of musical tones coming from somewhere nearby. Perhaps one of the technicians had accidentally tripped some sort of vocal subroutine in their attempt to access the station's computer. Then again, the voices he was hearing through the bulkhead seemed a bit too animated for it to be something routine. The only way he was going to know for sure would be to find out for himself. Letting out a sigh, he turned and continued down the corridor toward the sounds he was hearing.
The Commander turned the corner just as the Lieutenant came around it in the other direction and the two men almost collided. Andorzai's brush with the man instantly put him in touch with him telepathically. It was most inconvenient. He could feel the man's intense suspicion although it seemed to be dissipating.
"Is anything the matter, Lieutenant?" He asked.
Narrowly avoiding a collision with another officer was enough to bring Mike's attention back to his immediate surroundings. Between the thoughts running through his mind and the strange noises he had started hearing only moments ago, he had failed to notice the commander coming around the corner. Being caught off-guard in such a manner was not something Mike was usually accustomed to. "My apologies, commander," he said, "I was just...out for a stroll."
"No need to apologise, Lieutenant." The Commander replied with a smile. "I hear there's a party going on around here; I don't suppose you were looking for it, were you?"
"A party," Mike repeated with a somewhat surprised look on his face, "I wasn't aware of any..." His voice trailed off as two previously unrelated concepts connected with one another in a sudden moment of understanding. The look of surprise was soon replaced with a reflection of the commander's understanding smile. "Ah...I see," he said, "That must explain the strange noises I've been hearing."
At this point, Ethan staggered out of a nearby corridor almost knocking over the two officers. When he had recovered and looked at the two he had bumbled into, he blinked in surprise.
"Gentleman - sir's I mean...what a surprise." He struggled to hide the beer bottle behind his back. "I suppose your here for the party? The party is down the corner. Please, no matter what the urges - even if he does 'The Dance' - don't shoot Lieutenant Jerome. May I offer you drinks?" he asked as he led to two towards the sounds of the music, and into the corridor where the Petty Officer and Lieutenant were drinking and listening to the music.
Mike exchanged a glance with the Endeavour's new Executive Officer as the two men watched the intoxicated ensign stumble down the corridor, pausing every so often to motion them forward. "Come to think of it, I'm not really sure I want to know what's going on down there," he said in a low voice.
"No, you and me both, Lieutenant." Andorzai responded.
Sophie leaned against one of the walls and looked up as she heard Ethan approach. When she saw he was not alone she welcomed the newcomers to their little party. "Evening gentlemen and welcome to Deep Space 19's recently opened party center," she said with a cheerful grin. With the half empty beer bottle in her hand she pointed at Kalin. "He has some fine non-replicated beer he likes to share with anyone who is interested, so I guess you've come at the right moment." With just half a beer in her system she was still pretty sober, but couldn't help but giggle at Ethan's drunkenness. "You really can't hold your alcohol, can you?"
Ethan checked over his shoulder to check the officers were out of earshot, then spoke to Sophie, suddenly wide awake, and totally alert.
"Nice Act isn't it? Admit it! You totally thought I was smashed out of my Brain didn't you? Lets just say certain people are more likely to join a party, if they think the alcohol is especially... potent. Jerome over there is one of that kind. I wanted him to think I was brained so we could get into the Drunk Games. Ever played "Nine Finger Fillet" with a phaser beam? Its an easy way to increase your earning if you add a few wagers..." he winked at her, "but I am trusting you not to tell anyone ok?"
Sophie shook her head and chuckled. "You sneaky bastard!" She placed a finger on her lips, indicating she would be silent about it. "And no, I'm not playing any game that involves weapons. Don't drink and fight, that was what they always taught me," she added with a wink.

Kalin was currently standing on a make-shift podium, several feet high, out of crates and other containers. It was not structurally sound. He spoke in in a loud voice, heard over the din. "Ladies and gentlemen, friends, I am now about to preform, what only one of you among us has ever witnessed. Ethan, turn up the music, track 666, I am about to preform The Dance!"
A low, bass drum was heard, and a few synthetic chords, before bursting into loud, sharp, techno stream of sound. The movements made were...well... the interpretations were endless. Lets just say that it appealed to Klingons, as much as Humans, but the dance was all fast, upbeat, yet fluids movements.
Andorzai watched on and slowly sipped on his drink. He was flabberghasted by the Lieutenant's dancing "style" and chose to maintain a blank expression. He didn't want to offend anyone.
"I definitely need more alcohol to appreciate this," Sophie said with a soft chuckle. With a fairly classical upbringing, she wasn't a big fan of interpretive dance, but on the other hand, she had spent some time in different clubs and bars and had to admit that she had seen far worse. She turned to the new First Officer. "So, how do you like it so far? The Endeavour and the starbase, I mean."
"I think we'd all need some seriously mind-altering drugs to fully appreciate the sheer... majesty... of what we're seeing here, Yeoman." Andorzai replied as he finally broke the gaze he held on the Lieutenant. "It's one of those things, to be honest. I'm enjoying it but I hadn't really expected to end up on a space station, trying to cobble together bits and pieces wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I got reassigned."
"I don't think anyone thought they would encounter this when they signed up," Sophie commented. "On the other hand, a lot of people say they signed up to explore and I guess this is one way of doing that." She smiled. "I know I did." She got up, extended one hand to Andorzai and one to the others. "Let's join him, end his eh solo performance."
"I'll uhh," Andorzai hesitated, "I'll pass. I'm not what you'd call 'a dancer'."
"Well, nor is Kalin and that's not stopping him," Sophie said with a wink. "If this is not your kind of music, we can always see if they have something that suits your style?" She looked at him to see if he was going to let her convince him or not, but didn't want to push him if he really was uncomfortable.
Andorzai bowed his head slightly as he took more than a passing glance at the Captain's Yeoman. "I'm afraid I'll need to forego this one." He claimed, trying to drop a hint of regret.
"Okay, you know where to find us if you change your mind," Sophie said with a friendly smile. With that she turned around and joined the others who had gather on the dance floor.
Michael watched from one side of the entryway as several of the assembled personnel quickly moved into the middle of the room to join Lieutenant Jerome in his so-called 'The Dance' routine. There was no doubt in his mind this party was an attempt by those gathered to vent some of their own frustrations and energy which had built up during their work to re-establish operation of the station's systems. He certainly could not fault them for wanting to have a little fun, but it wasn't exactly the kind of situation he typically dove headfirst into. So he settled for watching the others enjoy themselves from his position near the door as the festivities continued.
Ethan sighed, and joined in with full vigor, and this continued for well over an hour, until eventually, he sagged into a seat nearby and spoke up.
"Well this has been Fun - But guys, I am on duty again in the morning, and I am going to have to turn in for the night. It been Fun guys. Nice meeting you Sophie." As the 'Dance' finished.
Sophie waved. "Bye Ethan! Was nice to meet you too." She looked at the time. He was right, it was getting a bit late. She sighed softly, this had been too long ago. Just one more song, she promised herself and then she would really go. Really.
