Mission: Klingons on the Starboard Bow
Location: Federation Embassy - Qo'noS

As the transporter materialisation effect faded, Benjamin and Gaius found themselves standing in the transporter room of the Federation's Klingon embassy, standing before the aide who Byrne had spoken to over subspace after their encounter with the Bird-of-Prey.

"Captain Byrne!" The klingon exclaimed before bowing to Gaius. "And Commander Gaius Ra-Xialii, I believe? I am Thopok, son of Tanang. It is a pleasure to meet with you both in person. Please...." at which point he was interrupted by captain Byrne.

"I need to speak with the Federation Ambassador," Benjamin said, sharply cutting off any further formalities. "It's an urgent matter that he will need to take to the High Council."

The Klingon looked annoyed for a moment at the fact that he was interrupted, but he had apparently been instructed on how to proceed as he didn't make any objection other than a frown. "Right this way," he responded briskly before turning and leading the way to the upper floors where the ambassadorial office could be located.

Gaius brought a fist across his heart, in the traditional greeting or salute of the Klingon people, a people he had enormous respect for. He then followed the Captain and the Ambassador.

Byrne followed close behind Thopok, silently willing the Klingon to move faster as they made their way through the embassy. Similarly, the short turbolift rise wasn't short enough in his current temperament. Finally, they reached the large office belonging to the Federation's ambassador to the Klingon homeworld.

As the door opened, they glanced upon a somewhat young Klingon. Their guide bowed slightly, much as it was the custom when dealing with Earth dignitaries. "Ambassador Rozhenko," he said courteously, "May I present Captain Benjamin Byrne and Commander Gaius Ra-Xialii from the USS Endeavour."

"Ambassador," Byrne began, as soon as Thopok had introduced them. "I have urgent news and evidence that must be presented to the High Council about activities in the Klingon-Gorn Corridor."

The man lifted his gaze from the datapad he was surveying before nodding in response. "I would imagine so, Captain," he stated, his voice drawling slightly as he spoke. "Please, let us dispense with formalities in the meantime, any important news does not need to be slowed down by protocol. My name is Alexander." Thopok looked a bit offended by that, but simply bowed once more before withdrawing from the chambers.

"Very well," the captain answered, pleased to see that the ambassador appreciated the need for expediency. "The conflict brewing between the Klingon Empire and the Gorn Hegemony in the region between the two empires: Though I don't believe for a second that either party are unwilling participants, I have evidence that there has been a third party in the region, working with elements of both governments to escalate tensions in the area, likely with the aim of instigating a full-scale war."

The Klingon blinked in confusion, frowning a little as he glanced back down at the datapad on his desk, if only momentarily before continuing in his usual drawl, "Captain, the Klingon Empire has no desire to start random wars at present. They're still in the process of rebuilding forces lost during the last one. Pretty sure the Federation suffered a decent amount of losses there as well." He sighed loudly, lifting a hand to rub at his forehead before adding, "Who is this third party you speak of? It is likely that the House involved is simply getting paid for their services. They've been quite down on their luck recently, and I suspect that any kind of outside income they can acquire is welcome."

"The third party I spoke of is a Romulan by the name of T'Marl. I don't profess to know where her current allegiances lie, but she at least was a member of the Tal Shiar. Trust me when I tell you that if she is trying to force the Klingons to divert resources to a war front on their Gorn border, it will be to accommodate her own interests in other areas."

Alexander narrowed his eyes slightly at hearing this. "Romulan and of the Tal Shiar? That would certainly explain a few things. Getting the Empire involved in a war would mean they can move in and outflank their forces by attacking from the other side. Even if the Gorn are willing to call a cease fire after they've been provoked, the Klingons will be unable to move forces back before the Romulans have had a chance to fortify any planets they might have managed to capture," he shook his head slightly. It seemed as if he was taking his job quite seriously, speaking of the Klingons in much the same way as any other Federation citizen.

"Captain, I'd like to see this evidence and then we can go and present it to the High Council so that they can take action and prevent this war from happening," he said before moving the datapad he had been perusing to the side of his desk and looking up at Benjamin expectantly.

Byrne tapped his combadge and spoke into the comm. line that it opened to his ship. "Byrne to Endeavour. Transmit our sensor logs and the away team report to Ambassador Rozhenko's office. Secure channel."
